Ol’ Burger Beats is the alias of Ole-Birger Neergård, a Norwegian hip-hop producer, dee jay and record collector that hails from Vatne, Norway. Smith is an unusual vocalist even without the grunge influences of Brad’s circle of friends, like Gossard and Jeff Ament’s Green River or Regan and Andrew Wood’s Malfunkshun, Smith’s honeyed falsetto starts to sound like the song of another species altogether.

It finds Sly precisely balancing funk and pop, creating an album that wound up being his last masterwork and one of the great funk albums of its era. A documentary on Sly & The Family Stone, directed by Questlove, is tentatively scheduled for 2023.
